BEIJING -- The 2018 China Business Summit on Achieving SDGs, co-organized by the UN Global Compact, China Enterprise Confederation, China Enterprise Directors Association and China Global Public Relations Co., Ltd., was held in Beijing in December 2018. During the summit, Luhua Group was formally invited to join the UN Global Compact and act as the best practice enterprise of the year to introduce its experience and achievements of sustainable development to the world.
With the theme of "New Drives for New Development in the New Era", the summit, through the forms of keynote speech, theme forum, special exhibition, and best practice commendation, demonstrated that the Chinese enterprises had positively responded to the Transforming our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and implemented the development concepts of "innovation, coordination, green, openness, and sharing".
The UN Global Compact is reportedly to have developed into the world's largest sustainable development organization with nearly 10,000 corporate members, including China's Sinopec, Huawei, Yili, Haier, Lenovo and State Grid. It is worth mentioning that Luhua Group is the first and only UN Global Compact member enterprise in China's edible oil industry.
"As a model of Xinhua News Agency's National Brand Project, the sustainable development mode of 'agricultural industry chain from farm to dining table', which was established by Luhua Group, has provided pragmatic solutions and experience for UN's SDGs such as poverty eradication, nutrition improvement and food security," noted the relevant leader of the UN Global Compact Committee, adding that Chinese enterprises are playing a leading role in building a moderately prosperous society in an all respects and promoting global sustainable development, and has made remarkable contributions in tackling climate change, protecting the ecological environment, and promoting sustainable production.
Based on its contributions in "5S physical squeezing", "sixth-generation high oleic acid peanut seed", and "support for agriculture, rural areas and farmers", Luhua Group has made its sustainable agricultural development practice case stand out from the 708 candidate cases nationwide. Due to its forward looking and its integration and driving effect on the whole industrial chain, the case has been selected as an example of the casebook 2018 China Business Best Practice on Achieving SDGs by the UN Global Compact. "Since its establishment, Luhua Group has been integrating the UN SDGs into its development strategies and management, adhering to the supply-side reform and development strategy innovation, and building a sustainable and innovative agricultural industry chain," pointed out Li Hengyan, vice president of Luhua Group.
At present, Luhua Group has 33 production bases, covering edible oil, condiments, flour, rice, etc. After more than 30 years of development, Luhua Group, as the leader of the high-end edible oil industry, has been appointed as the only national standard revision base for both peanut oil and sunflower seed oil in China. In 2018, Luhua Group topped the consumer recommendation list of Chinese edible oil brands for the fourth time in a row.
