The German postal service Deutsche Post DHL continued to profit from a boom in e-commerce in the third quarter, with its revenue increasing by 4.7 per cent to around 15.6 billion euros (17.2 billion dollars), the company said on Tuesday.
The business in international express mail and parcels in Germany saw particularly dynamic growth, but business was also good in other divisions, the Bonn-based postal and logistics group said.
Its operating profit rose from 376 million euros to 942 million euros in the three months from July to September, while its net profit reached 561 million euros - up from 146 million euros a year earlier, when special effects weighed on its results.
Chief executive Frank Appel said he continues to expect an operating profit of between 4 billion euros and 4.3 billion euros for this financial year.
"We are growing even in uncertain times," he said in a statement. "For the fourth quarter, we anticipate a traditionally strong holiday season."
