JD.com's online shopping spree sales hit 204 bln yuan

Abstract : Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com reported cumulative sales of 204.4 billion yuan (about 29.19 billion U.S. dollars) between Nov. 1 and 11, exceeding its total sales from the same period of last year.

BEIJING, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com reported cumulative sales of 204.4 billion yuan (about 29.19 billion U.S. dollars) between Nov. 1 and 11, exceeding its total sales from the same period of last year.

Its total sales for the period in 2018 reached 159.8 billion yuan.

Notably, the number of consumers in lower-tier cities (third-tier cities and below) increased by more than 60 percent from last year, and more than 70 percent of new consumers came from the lower-tier market, according to JD.com. sources.

For instance, sales of science books for children in the fourth-tier to sixth-tier cities surged 259 percent year on year, compared to 137 percent in first-tier cities.

Statistics showed home appliances, food, automobiles and cosmetics were among the most popular categories during the period which peaked Monday, featuring deep promotions.

Sales of 70-inch and large-screen televisions increased by 300 percent year on year on JD.com during the period, and the 5G version of the Huawei Mate 30 series ranked the first in sales among 5G mobile phones on the platform.

The volume of transactions of food and beverages doubled that of the same period last year.

Online car purchasing became a hit as well, as the turnover of new cars on the platform recorded a year-on-year growth of 318 percent.

Meanwhile, JD.com's cosmetics sales increased by 79 percent year on year.
