BEIJING, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) – Northwest China's Gansu Province saw 225 International freight trains depart from the province in the first eight months this year, surpassing the total amount in 2018, according to latest data released by the Department of Commerce of Gansu Province recently.
It is noted that during the period, the number of inbound China-Europe freight trains increased 11.2 folds, showing a strong momentum of opening up of inland areas and massive potential of the consumption market in China.
By far, Gansu has formed four international trade passages linking with Central Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Europe, and built two foreign land ports in the city of Lanzhou and Wuwei, which facilitate stable operation of international freight trains, according to an official of the Department of Commerce of Gansu.
Freight trains bound to South Asia have seen 1.5 times of year-on-year growth in shipment volume, and trains of the land-sea new channel have witnessed a year-on-year increase of 2.5 percent in shipments.
Meanwhile, large quantities of timber, grain, cotton yarn, and other goods are transported to Gansu via the inbound freight trains, boosting the development of local industries, such as timber processing and grain processing.
In January-August, the total foreign trade between Gansu Province and countries along the B&R reached 13.18 billion yuan, accounting for over half of the province's total foreign trade volume in the same period, official data showed. (Edited by Jiang Feifan)
