BEIJING, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- China is at its best period in history in terms of food security thanks to high grain output, abundant stocks, as well as stable market supply and prices, an official said Monday.
China's grain production has recorded bumper harvests for 15 consecutive years, and this year's grain output is expected to continue to surpass 650 million tonnes, said Zhang Wufeng, head of the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration at a press conference.
Over the years, China's grain supply has been sufficient with generally stable prices, which has played an important role in promoting sustainable and sound economic development as well as maintaining social stability, according to Zhang.
As a country with a large population, China will continue to implement the national strategies for food security and rural vitalization through sustainable farmland use and agricultural technology innovation, Zhang noted.
