BEIJING, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Southwestern metropolis of China, Chongqing is planning to construct 5,000 5G base stations in 2019 and about 30,000 stations by 2020 to achieve full coverage of 5G network in the main urban area, according to Chongqing Communication Administration.
A research team led by Chongqing Communication Administration has conducted in-depth researches on major issues of 5G technology application and formulated eight measures to solve the 5G development. The measures include stepping up 5G infrastructure construction, promoting 5G applications, expanding 5G-related industries layout, lowering construction and operating cost of 5G network, and improve 5G facilitation.
Chongqing is among the first cities approved by China's National Development and Reform Commission to pilot 5G projects. The first 5G pilot network was launched in the city last year.
In July this year, Chongqing opened a 5G-based pilot zone for testing autonomous vehicles (AV) in a suburban area. With more devices and facilities to be put into use and enhanced efforts in research, Chongqing will gradually expand its 5G network.
