CHONGQING, July 31 (Xinhua) -- A cargo train, heading for Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, set off from southwest China's Guoyuan Port in Chongqing Municipality on Wednesday, marking the start of regular operations of the Guoyuan Port train of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor.
Cargo carried by the train, including manganese iron, sulfuric acid disodium and glass fiber, will be further delivered to places such as Guangdong Province and Bangladesh after arriving at Guangxi.
The New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor is a trade and logistics passage jointly built by western Chinese provincial regions and Singapore under the framework of the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity. Chongqing is a center of operation for the corridor.
Authorities with the Liangjiang New Area of Chongqing said the newly-launched train service, featuring high efficiency and low cost, will further promote foreign trade in the western regions of China.
Guoyuan Port in Chongqing is the largest port on the upper reaches of the Yangtze and a key point connecting the Yangtze River economic belt and Belt and Road regions, with 16 berths currently in use for 5,000-tonne vessels. Its railway throughput during the first six months this year was 6.37 million tonnes, up 38 percent year on year.
