BEIJING, July 25 (Xinhua) – China’s lottery sales slumped 40.7 percent year on year to about 34.767 billion yuan in June, data from the Ministry of Finance showed on Thursday.
According to the ministry, the year-on-year sharp decline is mainly due to the skyrocketing sales of sports lottery during the 2018 FIFA World Cup last year.
Sales of welfare lottery tickets dropped 16.6 percent year on year to 15.918 billion yuan, while sports lottery sales edged down 52.3 percent to 18.849 billion yuan.
In the first half of this year, lottery sales fell 13.3 percent from a year earlier to 212.596 billion yuan.
Among them, sales of welfare lottery tickets slid 11.6 percent year on year to 97.577 billion yuan, while sports lottery sales decreased 14.7 percent to 144.839 billion yuan.
