BEIJING, July 22 (Xinhua) – Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province, vowed to integrate the development of transportation system into the construction of Sichuan Free Trade Zone, Sichuan Daily reported recently.
The newspaper quoted the local authority as saying that Chengdu will intensify the efforts to promoting the construction of Tianfu International Airport and a comprehensive bonded zone in the Tianfu International Airport new town, integrating such two projects into the expansion of Sichuan Free Trade Zone.
The Chengdu Tianfu International Airport will finish its construction by 2020, and it will go into operation in 2021.
At present, the construction of the airport’s main body is finished, while the main structures of the underground transportation system and flight zone are underway.
Meanwhile, a total of 28 supporting projects taken by Chengdu, such as transportation facilities, relocation and transformation plans, and energy communication are accelerating construction to ensure the operation together with the airport.
To be specific, the construction of a new expressway linking the third ring road of eastern Chengdu and the airport will be finished by June 2020, which will enable 35 minutes of travel time to the airport after its completion.
Chengdu's local authority also unveils guidance of the strategic planning for the development of new urban space in eastern Chengdu, vowing to construct an integrated transportation system including aviation, railways, urban railway, road traffic, and passenger and cargo traffic hubs in the new space.
Specifically, Chengdu will take further steps in enhancing the aviation hub construction in Tianfu International Airport, while striving to form a comprehensive railway transportation hub connecting with Tianfu International Airport and the new town area in eastern Chengdu.
In terms of building a road transportation system, the city plans to construct a road network system consisting of seven of high ways and 19 expressways, to achieve a comprehensive and integrated road transportation system. (Edited by Jiang Feifan)
