NANNING, July 11 (Xinhua) -- A longevity forum and life science conference will kick off Friday in Hezhou City, the World Longevity City in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, South China.
The forum is aimed at discussing the human health and longevity issues, proposing scientific opinions for solving the population aging problems. Participants of the form are invited to explore the secrets of longevity for a large population of elder in Hezhou, the host city of the forum.
It is the first time for Hezhou to host a high-end longevity forum which will be attended by a number of Nobel Prize winners, academicians at home and abroad.
Attendees will be invited to contribute their wisdom and share their opinions around the topic of health & longevity, health & technology, and sustainable development environment, so as to promote the coordinated development of elderly undertakings.
The latest national population sampling survey shows that Guangxi is home to 48 million elders at an age above 100, making up about 11 percent of the total in China. Hezhou, a city with a total population of 2.43 million, had 458 elders at an age above 100 and 54,700 elders at an age above 80 at the end of 2018. It was given the title "World Longevity City" by the International Experts Committee on Population Aging and Longevity in 2016.
Located in eastern Guangxi and at the junction of Guangxi and its neighboring Guangdong and Hunan provinces, Hezhou has been chosen by the state to pilot the combination of medical service and elder nursing and it is also a demonstration area for the integrated development of Guangxi and Guangdong-Hong Kong and Macao Greater Bay Area as well as important fulcrum for the construction of the Belt and Road.
