Interview: German port city eyes more co-op with Chinese companies in intelligent field

Abstract : Germany's second large city Hamburg looks forward to new cooperation opportunities with Chinese companies in the smart industry, said Director of Hamburg Invest Stefan Matz during an interview with Xinhua reporter.

BEIJING, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Germany's second large city Hamburg looks forward to new cooperation opportunities with Chinese companies in the smart industry, said Director of Hamburg Invest Stefan Matz during an interview with Xinhua reporter.

As Hamburg is building smart city, Matz said that there are numerous opportunities between China and Hamburg in the near future, Hamburg is making smart signal lights and intelligent transportation routes designing, and has invited some companies for trail projects, such as the sharing taxis and auto-driving buses.

Chinese companies are leading in sharing economy and artificial intelligence(AI) industry, and have accumulated much practical experience. Hamburg welcomes Chinese companies to participate in smart cooperation, Matz said.

Moreover, some Chinese enterprises, like XCharge, Spearhead, and Wise Road Capital, have already taken part in the cause, providing charging piles, information technology and artificial intelligence solutions for Hamburg, noted Matz.

About 570 Chinese companies have headquartered or set their branches in Hamburg, and more than 900 local Hamburg companies have trade contracts with China. Chinese companies are playing an active role in all areas locally such as logistics, banking, and new areas such as life sciences and renewable energy.

The port of Hamburg is the second large container port in Europe.  In recent years, China's economy and China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative have renewed its vitality, said Matz.
