The confidence of German consumers dipped in May but remains at a high level, market research institute GfK said on Tuesday.
GfK listed the consumer climate value for May as 10.2 points, down from 10.4 in April, and anticipated a continuation of the downward trend in June, with a value of 10.1 points.
"Despite this slight decrease, consumer climate continues to look positive and stable," GfK said.
Compared to the previous month "income expectations improved slightly, [while] economic outlook and propensity to buy declined somewhat," GfK said, based on a survey of 2,000 people.
"The global cooling off of the economy, the endless discussions around Brexit, and the risk of an escalation of the trade conflict with the USA have also put a noticeable brake on the economic outlook of consumers," GfK added.
Germans continue to become more pessimistic about the economy, GfK said, though this trend slowed in May.
