BEIJING, May 29 (Xinhua) -- The road route connecting China, Laos and Vietnam under the program of the International Road Transport in Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) was officially opened to traffic on Monday.
This marked the first launch of road routes of the GMS International Road Transport. The new route will further promote transport facilitation, trade in goods and people-to-people exchanges among countries in GMS.
The inauguration of the first GMS international road route was a solid step to advance integration of development strategies of countries, strengthen multilateral transport cooperation between economies along the Lancang-Mekong River, and build a community of shared future in Asia. The new road will usher in a new era of transport cooperation in GMS, propel interconnection of the China-Indochina Peninsula Economic Corridor, and help to form a new economic and social development landscape in GMS, according to Liu Xiaoming, vice minister of transport of China.
Yunnan province and Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region are expected to take advantage of the new road route to deepen exchanges and cooperation with Laos and Vietnam so as to create a better market environment for foreign transport operators to tap into the Chinese market and help domestic enterprises to do business overseas, said Liu.
The Ministry of Transport of China issued GMS Road Transport Permits to transport enterprises at the launching ceremony of the China-Laos-Vietnam road route on Monday. It's noted that holders of the Permits can come into and leave Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam without limit on the number of journeys within one year. (Edited by Su Dan)
