Foreign trade thrives in southwest China with new trade corridor

May 28, 2019

Abstract : Foreign trade from January to April showed strong sustained growth in southwest China's Guizhou Province, provincial customs said.

GUIYANG, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Foreign trade from January to April showed strong sustained growth in southwest China's Guizhou Province, provincial customs said.

Export from Guizhou to Belt and Road countries increased over 10 percent in the period and export to central and eastern European countries grew by six times, customs figures show.

The robust export was the result of a land-sea trade corridor that facilitates commerce between western Chinese provinces and other countries and regions.

The New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor is a trade and logistics passage jointly built by western Chinese provincial regions and Singapore under the framework of the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity.

Goods are transported to the Beibu Gulf in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and transferred to sea routes.

The corridor is the closest route for west China provinces to reach the sea. It offers an alternative for western Chinese provinces and autonomous regions other than shipping goods via the east coast.

Guizhou Tyre Co. Ltd said the route saved four days compared with shipping goods through ports in Shanghai and Shenzhen.

The province mainly exports liquor, fertilizer, tyres and tea.

By the end of March, freight trains on the land-sea routes had made 901 trips, covering 166 ports in 71 countries and regions.
