MILAN, May 21 (Class Editori) - The investment is added to the half a billion euros that ZTE put on Italy until 2022. The Chinese telecommunications giant has inaugurated its first European cyber security laboratory in Rome and will soon open a new facility in Belgium. The center will employ ten new specialists. The opening also intends to give a signal of transparency to commercial and institutional partners at a time when Huawei is in a tight spot - the company was added to the black list of the US government - and consequently the activity of giant Chinese tech companies in USA allied countries is questioned.
The company explained that the cyber security laboratory intends to provide global customers, regulators and other stakeholders with security assessment and audit services, such as revising the source code on ZTE products, including 4G and 5G, security design audits, auditing of procedural documents, black box tests and penetration testing.
"We intend to gradually achieve the cyber security objectives in three different phases," explained Chief Security Officer of ZTE Zhong Hong, who attended the inauguration together with Undersecretary of Defense Angelo Tofalo, the councilor for the simplification of the Municipality of Rome Flavia Marzano and the minister-counsellor of the Chinese embassy in Rome Li Bin.
The first phase concerns the compliance with the provisions of cyber security laws, following industry regulations and standards, as well as certification systems. During the second phase ZTE intends to conduct an open dialogue to improve transparency and establish cooperation with customers and regulatory agencies. In the third phase support will be given to the birth of an open cooperation mechanism that would contribute to the standardization of cyber security.
ZTE Italia President Hu Kun affirmed that Italy is a top priority for the group. In the last three years the group has invested 200 million in Italy, of which 20 million has been earmarked for training, research and innovation centers in the 5G field, in collaboration with the University of Tor Vergata and with L'Aquila, and recently at the newly opened cyber security center. ZTE is also working with some local governments, among which the Municipality of Rome, with a plan for monitoring the security of the Temple of Jupiter and the Palazzo dei Conservatori. Coming next is the intention to turn Italy into a logistics hub, which would serve as a regional reassembly and repair center, able to meet the needs of other European countries.
"We are open to present our technology know-how to all the stakeholders involved," underlines the top manager. "We are operating in Italy and we want to focus on quality. We can talk with all the key players in the area, with the intention of generating ideas with the government as well," concluded Hu Kun.
