China to upgrade information security level protection system

May 16, 2019

Abstract : China has released a series of upgraded national standards concerning information security level protection, which will come into force on December 1, 2019, in order to enhance the national cybersecurity system.

BEIJING, May 16 (Xinhua) -- China's State Administration of Market Supervision (SAMR) and Standardization Administration of China (SAC) have jointly released a series of upgraded national standards concerning information security level protection, which will come into force on December 1, 2019, in order to enhance the national cybersecurity system.

Compared with the existing information security level protection system established in 2007, the upgraded system will change in terms of protection scope, legal effects, technical standards and evaluation procedures, as well as in other aspects.

The system will cover not only government websites, but also information network infrastructure, big data centers, cloud computing platforms, Internet of Things (IoT) systems, industrial control systems (ICS), and public service platforms.

In addition, it will integrate functions including risk assessment, security monitoring, case investigation, data protection, disaster backup, emergency response, effect evaluation, and safety officer training.

Experts believe that the upgraded national information security level protection standards will continue to drive the development of multiple industries in China, creating huge market space. (Edited by Li Wenxin, liwenxin@xinhua.org)
