MILAN, May 6 (Class Editori) -- Forty new flagship stores in China by 2022. Calia Italia, specialized in sofas and upholsters production, hopes to tap in Chinese consumers' growing demand for luxury products. The company, founded in 1965 and based in the city of Matera, managed to secure a 1.5-million-euro Sace-Simest investment from Deutsche Bank for the purpose. The resources are to be used for participating in national and international fairs, as well as for R&D and for supporting the working capital needed for growing in China.
"The Chinese market makes for a fantastic commercial opportunity for Calia Italy," noted Giuseppe Calia, Chief Director for Administration and Sales of Calia Italia. "Chinese consumers pay particular attention to Italian brands, and this trend is fueling the growing demand for Made in Italy quality products. The partnership with Dongguan Huicui Furniture Co Ltd., a Chinese company subsidiary of De Rucci Beddings Co. Ltd, allows us entrance center stage in the Chinese market – which is becoming increasingly more important for our export strategies".
The furniture industry is one of the Made in Italy's most representative ones, and it can rely on a strong international calling. In 2018, exports generated more than a half of the sector's revenues (27.4 billion euro), totaling 14 billion. Against such a backdrop, China becomes a fundamental market. As shown in a recent study by Intesa San Paolo, Italian exports mainly travel toward the US (477 million euro), China (417 million), France (174 million), Canada (73 million), and Switzerland (68 million).
The 2019 edition for the Design Week in Shanghai should be taking place next November. On the last occasion, the event welcomed more than 22,500 people between visitors, buyers, importers, distributors, designers, and architects. The latest Italy-China Foundation report records that, since 2010, exports toward China have tripled (+299%). For its part, Calia Italia relies on exports for 85% of its revenues, reaching more than 90 countries in Europe, United States and China.
