BEIJING, April 19 (Xinhua) -- The Belt and Road (B&R) tax collection and administration cooperation mechanism is officially launched with 34 countries and regions signing the MoU Thursday during the First Conference of the Belt and Road Initiative Tax Administration Cooperation Forum held in Wuzhen of east China's Zhejiang province.
Tax authorities of the 34 countries and regions including China, Kazakhstan, Nepal, Indonesia, Sudan, among others, became board members of the mechanism, vowing to strengthen taxation cooperation, improve business environment, serve trade liberalization and investment facilitation so as to better facilitate the B&R construction.
It is learned that tax institutes of B&R would be set up in China and Kazakhstan as regional training and research centers for expediting tax collection, administration and service improvement.
The implementation of the mechanism requires enhanced tax collection and administration coordination, pragmatic action plan, as well as a platform for mutual learning and understanding, said Wang Jun, head of China’s State Taxation Administration.
Thursday’s forum was the first time that Chinese tax department initiates a high-level international taxation meeting which was attended by tax authority heads and representatives from 85 countries and regions.
Official data shows that since the B&R Initiative was proposed, China’s trade with countries and regions along the B&R routes rose from 6.5 trillion yuan in 2013 to 8.4 trillion yuan in 2018 with an average annual growth rate of 5.3 percent. (Edited by Niu Huizhe, niuhuizhe@xinhua.org)
