InfoQuest (April 12, 2019) -- From February to March, officials in the Department of Foreign Trade visited the industrial parks in Ayutthaya, Rayong, and Chonburi, which manufacture dual-use items (DUIs), goods that have a civilian purpose but which can also be used for military ends.
And a seminar on Trade Controls of Weapons of Mass Destruction Act (TCWMD Act) draft was held to interpret the relevant legislation for enterprises exporting DUIs or enterprises involved in DUIs, aiming to get them ready for the enforcement of the law when the draft comes into force in the early 2020, said Adul Chotinisakorn, director general of the Commerce Ministry's Department of Foreign Trade.
Enterprises attending the seminar are mainly from automobiles and parts, electronic as well as mechanical industries.
The Director General of the Department of Foreign Trade noted that the seminar achieved good results, providing a reminder to relevant enterprises and making them attach importance to the pertinent preparatory work for the enforcement of the TCWMD Act. These enterprises in the seminar learned the details of the Act, for example, the effective date, the exemption clauses, the definition, the product control committee for the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, regulations, relevant punishments, appeal, functions of the management personnel, services charge rate and information about the progress of the Act draft as well as the e-TCWMD system which provides a convenient information technology system to the implementation of the control and relevant enterprises.
"The Department of Foreign Trade plans to provide training on the e-TCWMD system for relevant companies when it is launched, two to three months before the Act comes into force. Hence, we advise relevant enterprises, departments and those interested in the system to pay close attention to the information released by the Department," said Adul.
