BEIJING, April 11 (Xinhua) -- China's building material sector reported rising production and improving added value in the first two months of this year, data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) showed recently.
The added value of the sector increased 8.7 percent year-on-year in the first two months of 2019, which was 4.4 percentage points higher than the grwoth of last December, according to MIIT.
The sector's profits amounted to 45.1 billion yuan during the period, up 3.2 percent year-on-year, official data showed.
Cement producers raked in profits of 13.39 billion yuan, 19.2 percent more than that of a year ago. The cement output increased 0.5 percent year-on-year to 210 million tonnes (tons) from January to February of this year.
Meanwhile, another major building material, plate glass, reported operating revenue growth of 5.4 percent year-on-year to 11.04 billion yuan, despite a downward profit, while its production surged 7.8 percent year-on-year to 140 million weight boxes, according to MIIT. (Edited by Jiang Feifan)
