BEIJING, April 9 (Xinhua) -- The China-Kazakhstan Horgos International Border Cooperation Center, the first cross-border free trade zone globally, is pushing for the cross-border trade between China and Kazakhstan gradually.
Located in Horgos, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the center covers an area of 5.28 square kilometers, 3.43 square kilometers of which belongs to China and the rest of which belongs to Kazakhstan.
Citizens of the two sides and citizens of a third country can enter the center for face-to-face business negotiations and commodity transactions with valid certificates such as passport and entry and exit permits.
Data from the border checkpoint in Horgos showed that visitors in and out of the center from January to March this year grew by 2.7 percent year on year to 1.121 million, and vehicles in and out exceeded 10,000.
Since the beginning of April, tourists and businessmen visiting the center has kept increasing, making the daily average visitors reach 1,6000 currently.
At present, the center can offer various kinds of duty-free commodities from different places of the world with favorable prices.
Besides, so far, nearly 30 key projects covering areas like product display, star hotel, commercial facility and financial services have settled in the center, involving a total investment of over 30 billion yuan. More than 5,000 merchants have also settled in the center. (Edited by Gu Shanshan)
