BEIJING, April 8 (Xinhua) -- A new China-Europe freight train route linking East China's Qingdao, Shandong province, with Minsk, capital city of Belarus, was launched last Tuesday.
The train departed from the multimodal transport center at the demonstration zone in Qingdao for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), loaded with engine parts and solar modules with a value of more than 50 million yuan.
The whole journey costs about 22 days, while the traditional way of sea transportation costs 55 days.
According to a senior manager at Sinotrans Central China Co., Ltd, operator of the train, there are many Shandong-based enterprises in China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone in Minsk, creating large logistics demands, and rail transportation will become more and more important in serving their needs.
It is learned that in 2018, the volume of containers transported by China-Europe freight trains departing from the multimodal transport center in Qingdao accounted for 81 percent of the province's total. (Edited by Li Wenxin, liwenxin@xinhua.org)
