BEIJING, April 2 (Xinhua) -- China's revised draft law on solid waste pollution prevention has passed review by the Ministry of Justice and is to be submitted to the State Council for deliberation, said Qiu Qiwen, head of the solid waste and chemicals department under the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) in a press conference last week.
The MEE released the draft revision for seeking public opinions in July of 2018, and then added contents such as producer responsibility extension system, garbage classification system and revised specific penalties, raising fines on relevant illegal behavior up to 1 million yuan, according to report by China Securities Journal.
Apart from the solid waste pollution prevention law, this year China will revise supporting rules and policies concerning the Regulations on Hazardous Waste Operation Licenses and the Regulations on Hazardous Waste Transfer.
Large-scale investigation of solid waste in the Yangtze River Economic Belt will be continued in 2019, and the prevention and control of waste lead storage batteries will be actively carried out to promote the implementation of pollution prevention and control of tailings reservoirs in the Yangtze River Economic Belt, Qiu said.
