Experts from China, Kuwait call for intensifying academic, media exchanges

March 26, 2019

Abstract : Experts from China and Kuwait on Monday discussed ways of intensifying academic and media exchanges, calling for promoting communication between the two peoples.

KUWAIT CITY, March 25 (Xinhua) -- Experts from China and Kuwait on Monday discussed ways of intensifying academic and media exchanges, calling for promoting communication between the two peoples.

The discussion took place at a seminar held by the Chinese Embassy in Kuwait in cooperation with the China Public Diplomacy Association (CPDA) and Kuwait University in Kuwait City.

On the sidelines of the event, the Chinese Ambassador to Kuwait Li Minggang said 2019 is the 48th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Kuwait.

"Both countries have developed relations at political, humanitarian and cultural levels," Li said.

Kuwait is one of the first Arab countries to sign a cooperation agreement with China under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), he added.

China is willing to develop its relations with Kuwait and deepen their strategic partnership by pushing forward cooperation between the two countries, the Chinese ambassador noted.

The BRI, proposed by China in 2013, aims to build trade and infrastructure networks connecting Asia with Europe and Africa on and beyond the ancient Silk Road routes. The initiative comprises the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.

Hu Zhengyue, vice president of CPDA, said it is a right choice for China and Arab countries to develop partnership in the new situation.

It is also the only way leading to mutual development and prosperity, Hu added.

"The China-proposed initiative and the Kuwait Vision 2035 are highly compatible. By merging development strategies, the two sides will achieve mutual benefits and win-win results," he noted.

Fahad Al-Rashed, a member of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development of Kuwait, said the BRI will bring economic benefits to Kuwait.
