The project - 1.3 billion investments to build a fashion district of 18 square kilometers where Italian companies can have a privileged entry - was presented today in Milan by the Italy China Foundation and Xian Hi-tech. The initiative is particularly significant because falls within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, the new Silk Road where the city of Xi'an has played an essential liaison role with the West.
MILAN, March 19 (Class Editori) - Three square kilometers on the edge of one of the ancient Chinese cities, within the Xian International Community (Xaic), on a 18 square kilometers area: in the Shaanxi province, in Central China, a fashion city is taking shape, the Xian International Fashion Town, with Italy as the main collaborator.
Promoted by Xi'an International Community, Tande Real Estate and Chic Group, the initiative was presented today in Milan at the Italy-China Bilateral Forum on Fashion and Design issues promoted by Xi'an Hi-tech Industries Development Zone and Italy China Foundation. The Undersecretary for Economic Development Michele Geraci opened the day on behalf of the Italian Government, while the Chinese Government was represented by Zhong Hongjiang, General Secretary of the Party for the Xi’an High Tech Zone, one of the most well-known on many Fortune 500s, and member of the Xi’an Municipal Committee.
"Xi'an Hi-tech and Xi'an International Fashion Town will continue to promote and strengthen the foundations of the cooperation between China and Italy in the fields of fashion, culture and technology by sharing resources and ideas that will serve to create development opportunities for both Countries" said Zhong Hongjiang.
Xi'an High Tech decided to dedicate an area to the development of the fashion industry in the spirit of industrial innovation, and focusing on a collaboration with Italy to create a real fashion town that was born with the aim of a win-win collaboration between the two countries and to become the best possible environment where designers, retail brands and companies in the fashion-tech sector can grow and enhance those sectors.
"Our goal is to help Italian companies to land in China. As well as to open activities where Italians and Chinese can work closely with satisfaction and great results, as it is happening today in many situations. For years, China has been perceived as a threat. Today China is an opportunity and initiatives like this are the proof," explained Alberto Bombassei, Italy China Foundation chairman.
The Forum was the occasion for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Italy China Foundation which formally defines the debut of China-Italy Fashion Town and a letter of intent between Xi'an Hi-Tech and the Foundation that foresees the establishment of a business fund to support the internationalization of Italian SMEs that will establish their headquarters in Xi’an.
Jia Changshun, chairman and secretary of the party committee of the Xi'an Gaoke Group, and Cai Xichun, general manager of the Xi'an Fashion Town Operation Management Company explained the planning and development process, the industrial layout and the business environment of the city. The goal, they explained, is to bring the global fashion industry to Xi'an.
The meeting is particularly significant in view of the President Xi Jinping's State visit to Italy between 21 and 23 March, because it falls within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, the new Silk Road where the city of Xi’an has played an essential liaison role with the West.
According to the new urbanization process reform plan launched by the State Council in 2018, Xi'an, which currently has 13 million inhabitants, is promoted to the rank of National Central City, along with cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chongqing and Chengdu. As a matter of fact, it is getting ready to become a development model and integration of infrastructure, industry and services. The plan vision calls for Xi’an to become one of the tourism and fashion world capitals.
In this context, Xi'an International Fashion Town, which expects 10 billion yuan investment, about 1.3 billion euros, and 100 square meters of area destined for commercial establishments, had already been the protagonist last month of the Fashion Hub during the Milan Fashion Week, it has all the credentials to become a highly innovative place in which brands can get in touch with a Chinese consumers target particularly interested in fashion and the new frontiers of creativity.
For many companies - emerging or established - which represent the Made in Italy excellence in the field of fashion, lifestyle and technology innovation, new development scenarios are opening in China. The project will provide concrete strategic support to enter the Chinese market, including access to online and offline channels, assistance in starting up the business, help to find funding and additional support policies. Among the benefits reserved for companies that will be selected to be part of the platform, there are also areas of visibility, intercultural marketing mentorship and access to a distribution network of their products.
