When the reporter came to Tongwei Solar (Chengdu) Co., Ltd. on December 1 again, the construction site was replaced by busy production scene. The director of the battery factory Zhai Xujing said happily that “the Chengdu company has realized 230 MW of solar cells production with production value of 350 million yuan.”
Production capacity of the first stage of the Shuangliu project is 1 GW or 600,000 cells each day, the largest capacity of a single plant in the world. The project also refreshed records of construction and production for more than once: it only took 7 months from starting construction on November 18 of last year to June 30 when the first cell came off the production line; it realized full production from July to October, at least 6 months less than average level of the industry...
"The construction was not always going smoothly." said Huang Bin, director of the Development and Reform Bureau of Shuangliu District in Chengdu. Huang said the company was facing problems such as poor transportation condition, limited use of sewage disposal and electricity facilities etc. Shuangliu District established a special work group for the project. The group held more than 20 special meetings and gradually solved more than 50 problems. A 10 KV special electricity line was completed on May 6, ensured the construction of the project in the last month.
With support from the government, the company also quickened its pace. Tongwei’s project has become a model of Shuangliu District. Huang predicted the district is expected to realize 38 billion yuan of fixed-assets investment, with a growth rate of 40 percent.
