BEIJING, March 12 (Xinhua) -- China Academy of Transportation Science (CATS), a research arm at China's Ministry of Transport, on Tuesday unveiled the China Transport Services Index (CTSI) for February, showing that the country's transport services was generally stable in the first two months of 2019.
With the passenger and cargo volumes of railway, highway, waterway and civil aviation as basic indicators, CTSI, comprised of a comprehensive index and two sub-indices regarding passenger transport and cargo transport respectively, can reflect the overall operation of China's transport industry.
According to CATS, the CTSI in February stood at 156.8, up 1.8 percent year on year, while the average CTSI from January to February rose by 4.1 percent year on year to 159.5, one percentage point lower than the growth in December 2018 but 2.3 percentage points higher than that of the same period of last year.
The average passenger transport index from January to February registered 163.5, growing by 7.1 percent from the same period of last year, and 4.2 percentage points and 8.6 percentage points higher than the growths of last December and the same period of 2018 respectively.
The average cargo transport index in the first two months of 2019 increased by 2.4 percent year on year to 157.6, 3.9 percentage points and 1.2 percentage points lower than the growths of last December and the same period of last year respectively.
Such results was attributed to the Spring Festival travel rush, pointed out Zhou Jian, an official from CATS, who predicts that the cargo transport index may increase at a faster speed than the passenger transport index in March. (Edited by Gu Shanshan)
