The international travel fair ITB based in the German capital Berlin is focusing this year on the excursions business and virtual reality in tourism.
For the first time, separate areas are dedicated to both segments, organizers Messe Berlin said on Tuesday, the day before the 53rd ITB opens to visitors.
The partner country for the 2019 fair, which runs until Sunday, is Malaysia.
Despite a slow start to the summer business, the German tourism industry expects slightly higher sales this year.
"The travel mood is basically there," said the president of the Federal Association of the German Tourism Industry, Michael Frenzel.
However, macroeconomic forecasts are tending towards the gloomy, he said.
Economy Minister Peter Altmaier is scheduled to officially open the ITB on Tuesday evening.
The first three days of the fair are reserved for trade visitors, with private individuals also allowed to visit on Saturday and Sunday.
Around 10,000 exhibitors from 181 countries and regions are represented in the exhibition halls around Berlin's exhibition grounds on the western edge of the city.
Last year, around 170,000 visitors came to the ITB.
