BEIJING, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- Lianyungang, a pivot B&R city in east China's Jiangsu Province, saw its imports of seafood from countries and regions along the Belt and Road routes in 2018 jump 202 percent year on year to 4,000 metric tons (tonnes), reported Economic Daily on Tuesday.

According to the report, those seafood, which satisfied the diversified demands of the Chinese market, valued 8 million U.S. dollars.

With the further advancement of the consumption upgrading in China, Lianyungang's imports of high-quality seafood in 2019 might be 2.5 times that of 2018, predicted Economic Daily.

It is reported that as a designated port for fruits, grains and meat, Lianyungang boasts the first multimodal customs supervision center and the first customs bonded cold storage in Jiangsu.

It also possesses a special refrigerated container storage yard, a bonded cold storage under supervision, a cold chain transport fleet and a Customs inspection platform.

Apart from port business, the city has also opened international freight train lines connecting itself to Central Asia and Europe as well as container railway-river combined transport business, creating excellent conditions for cold chain logistics services, noted Luo Lairong, head of the Lianyungang Customs.

According to Luo, the city will continue to take measures to further shorten the customs clearance time and reduce trade costs, so as to further lift the opening level of the city. (Edited by Gu Shanshan)
