BEIJING, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- China had completed ultra-low emission upgrading for more than 700 million kw of coal power generation units by the end of third quarter of 2018, achieving upgrading target ahead of schedule, according to a source with the National Energy Administration.
This brings the country’s accumulative coal power generation units that meet ultra-low emission standard to more than 750 million kw, accounting for more than 75 percent in total coal power units, reported Economic Information Daily on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, China achieved energy saving upgrades for 650 million kw of coal power units so far, in which 350 million kw of upgrades were carried out during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020), outpacing the target of 340 million kw previously set for the period.
Energy saving units now take up more than 65 percent of the total coal power units, the report noted.
China’s coal power installed capacity grew by 30 percent from 2012 to 2017, but power generation emissions of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and dust dropped 86 percent, 89 percent and 85 percent, respectively, during the period, according to China Electricity Council.
