The technological giant in Shenzhen will work in conjunction with local partners so as to dispel any doubt about the participation in the development of the 5G network in the Italian peninsula. The purpose is not only to make the country a logistics hub, but a European hub as well.

08/02/2019, Class Editori – Zte is working on the launch of a cyber-security laboratory in Italy. Place and amount of the investment have not yet been disclosed. More details could arrive already in the next weeks. The Shenzhen group has long been working with Wind 3 and Open Fiber on the new 5G technology. Zte is currently engaged in Italy in the development of the network, with the construction of an infrastructure dedicated to experimentation in L'Aquila. The Chinese telecommunications giant immediately relaunched on the topic following press rumors about its possible exclusion - along with Huawei, the other giant Chinese of the industry - from the projects.

However, for months now, there has been talk of US pressure on European partners to discontinue the collaboration with the two companies. On Thursday, February 7, a note from the Ministry of Economic Development denied any bans, of which the press has been reported by "qualified sources" from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defence. "National security is a priority, and in the event that critical issues should arise - currently not revealed - the Ministry of Economic Development will consider whether to take the initiatives under their responsibility", as announced in the statement.

The new Security Lab designed by Zte will work in conjunction with local partners. According to the intentions of the group, led in Italy by Hu Kun, the center plans to give a seizure signal "to maximum transparency with its stakeholders". Zte further specifies to consider each initiative on certification systems as "an opportunity to discuss processes aimed at highlighting the necessary transparency and demonstrating full cooperation for the resolution of any issue or need".

Furthermore, the group has committed itself to investing 500 million euro in Italy by 2023 for both the 5G and the development of smart cities. The research and innovation center, opened last year in L'Aquila, is going in this direction.

Hu Kun himself, in conversation with Class Editori just over a year ago, had not concealed his intention to make Italy a logistics centre for society, which would be capable of serving the whole of Western Europe. In Zte's projects, considering the geography of the Italian peninsula, the country will not only be a research hub, but it can become a regional center for reassembling and repairing, capable of satisfying the needs of other European countries.
