BEIJING, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- "New type of infrastructure" is becoming a key word written in the annual work reports of many local governments in China, as the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), China's top economic planner, recently designated it as a new focus of 2019.
The "new type of infrastructure" often refers to new technical areas including artificial intelligence (AI), industrial Internet, the internet of things, the next generation of mobile communication (5G), etc.
According to the Shanghai Securities News, Beijing Municipality plans to step up the construction of 5G and industrial Internet, and use the AI technology to promote industrial upgrading in many other areas.
Similar efforts will also be made in southwest China's Sichuan Province, and a set of digital economy demonstration zones will be built, according to the province's government work report of 2019.
Analysts with the Bank of China International (BOCI) said that new type of infrastructure covers a wider range of industries, which better represents the future orientation of economic transformation and upgrading, and thus is likely to attract more investment in 2019.
Besides, traditional infrastructure, including transportation and energy has still been the highlight of investment in 2019. Analysts with China Securities said that the traditional infrastructure has played an indispensable role in stable growth of driving employment in upstream and downstream industries such as cement and steel.
