China's AliExpress tops Israel's cross-border shopping websites in 2018 -- AliExpress, Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba's online global retail platform, topped Israel's cross-border shopping websites in 2018, said a report by Israel Postal Company on January 15. According to the data, about 65 million packages of cross-border e-commerce were delivered in Israel in 2018, of which around 50 percent were orders from AliExpress. The second on the list is the U.S. e-commerce giant eBay.
Evergrande Health Industry (0708.HK) buys 51pct stake in NEVS for USD930 mln -- Evergrande Health Industry Group Limited (0708.HK) announced on January 15 to buy a 51-percent stake in National Electric Vehicle Sweden AB (NEVS) for 930 million U.S. dollars. According to a filing to the stock exchange, the 930 million U.S. dollars will be paid in two instalments. Specifically, the first instalment of 430 million U.S. dollars had been paid on January 15, 2019, and the remaining amount shall be paid on or before 31 January 2019. Meanwhile, the listed company will obtain a majority of board seats on the NEVS board of directors, after the transaction.
Chinese automaker opens R&D center in Detroit -- Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC) unveiled a research and development center in Detroit, the U.S. state of Michigan. It is the third R&D center the Chinese automaker has established in the United States, the other two are located in Los Angles and Silicon Valley.
Chinese firms 2018 get more patents approved in the U.S. -- Chinese enterprises saw patents approved by the United States increase 12 percent year on year in 2018, according to report by U.S. IFI Claims Patent Services. In contrast, the total patents obtained in the U.S. by other countries and regions dropped compared with 2017. The increase could be attributed to importance attached to R&D by Chinese firms, a senior analyst with IFI Claims told Xinhua, adding that patent holding could also help avoid patent disputes for Chinese companies.
China's GAC Motor to enter U.S. market by 2020 -- Guangzhou Automobile Group Motor Co., Ltd. (GAC Motor) plans to enter the U.S. market next year, the Chinese company's president said on January 14 in Motor City of the United States. At a press conference following the unveiling of its electric vehicle concept SUV at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), GAC said it hopes to enter the U.S. market in the first half of 2020.
