Construction starts on cable-stayed bridge with world's longest span -- Construction started on a cable-stayed bridge with the world's longest span (1,176 meters) in east China's Jiangsu Province on January 9. The bridge is part of 5.3-km-long cross-river passage that composes of expressways on the upper level and highways and intercity railways on the lower level over the Yangtze River. The six-lane expressways have a maximun speed of 100 km per hour, and the four-lane highways will a maximum speed of 80 km per hour.
40 pct of construction work on China-aided stadium in Cambodia completed -- About 40 percent of the construction work on a China-funded new national stadium here has so far been completed, Thong Khon, president of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, said on January 9th.The stadium is being built by the China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) under the Chinese grant aid of 1.1 billion Chinese yuan (about 160 million U.S. dollars), he said. Work on the project began in August 2017. "The construction has been underway well. To date, about 40 percent of the construction has been completed and the project will be fully finished by the end of 2020," Thong Khon said at a ceremony marking the start of installing prefabricated stands for the stadium's 55,000 seats.
Beijing's new airport to handle 72 mln passengers annually by 2025 -- Beijing's new international airport is expected to handle 45 million passengers annually by 2021 and 72 million by 2025, according to the country's civil aviation regulator. Beijing Daxing International Airport, set to start operation this year, is designed to become "a large international aviation hub, a new driver of development for the country and a comprehensive transport hub in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region that supports the Xiongan New Area's development," according to a statement from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).
Sri Lanka conducts test run on China-funded southern railway line -- The Sri Lankan Ministry of Transporton on Sunday conducted a test run along the newly constructed railway line between Matara and Beliatta in the south of the island country which will boost passenger traffic. The 26.75 km long Matara-Beliatta railway extension was financed by the Exim Bank of China and the contract was awarded to China National Machinery Import and Export Corporation.
New railway for coal transport opens in north China -- A new railway for coal transport has opened in north China, according to China Railway Taiyuan Group. The railway runs 214 km between the city of Shuozhou in Shanxi Province and Zhungeer in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It is designed to have an annual transport capability of 5.26 million tonnes to serve as a major coal outlet for the mineral-rich Inner Mongolia. The Shuozhou-Zhungeer railway is a vital part of northern China's railway network for coal transport and will offer new opportunities for local industries, said an official with China Railway Taiyuan Group.
