China to improve high-quality development of logistics industry

January 09, 2019

Abstract : China will boost the high-quality development of the logistics industry, by accelerating the construction of logistics hubs and multimodal transport.

BEIJING, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- China will boost the high-quality development of the logistics industry by accelerating the construction of logistics hubs and multimodal transport, Economic Information Daily reported at 2018 Beijing (Xiangshan) International Logistics Forum & the 2nd China Logistics Brand Conference.

At the forum, several officials of relevant government authorities pointed out that although China's logistics industry has been rapidly expanding, its development is imbalanced, with relatively high costs, low efficiency, and unreasonable freight structure.

To cut the costs and rationalize the industry layout, more restructuring works need to be done, of which logistics hubs construction is a priority, said experts.

In late December, 2018, China issued a specialized plan on logistics hubs construction, specifying that it would establish 212 national logistics hubs, and construct about 30 highly-interconnected modern logistics hubs at national level by the year of 2020, and incubate a number of competent transportation agent companies to operate these hubs.

Experts at the forum also believed that multimodal transport and non-vessel operating common carrier (NVOCC) will obtain more policy supports in the future, in order to improve the efficiency of goods transportation and reduce environmental impact.

Liu Xiaoming, Vice Minister of Transport added that China will further implement government services reform to reduce burdens and ensure fair and equal conditions for enterprises involved in goods transportation.  (Edited by Li Wenxin, liwenxin@xinhua.org)
