BEIJING, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- The role of North Bund area should be highlighted as it enjoys a rich shipping industry chain and active shipping factors, which can help build Shanghai into an international shipping center with the capacity of allocating the global shipping resources, experts said at a forum about port industry development held Thursday in Shanghai.
According to statistics, the Hongkou District, where the North Bund is located, has gathered more than 4,600 shipping service companies and 38 shipping functional institutions, building up one of the most diverse shipping industry chains in China.
This year in July, Shanghai issued a three-year action plan to build the city into an international shipping center, which will result in further opening-up and strengthened service capability of its port industry.
The port industry has become a pillar of the B&R construction, as interconnection between countries and regions along the B&R routes goes deeper, said Lin Rong, deputy director of China Transport Telecommunications and Information Center (CTTIC) under the Chinese Ministry of Transport (MOT).
With its global service network and high degree of integration, China's shipping industry can provide important market support for the implementation of the B&R Initiative, according to Huang Xiaowen, vice chairman of China COSCO Shipping Corporation Limited.
