XINING, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Xining, capital of northwest China's Qinghai Province, will provide high-tech research institutions with a maximum bonus of 2 million yuan (290,000 U.S. dollars) starting from Jan. 1, 2019.
Newly established high-tech research institutions will be rewarded up to 2 million yuan while key city-level tech-related projects will be given subsidies between 500,000 and 1 million yuan, according to Xining authorities.
A series of incentives will also be offered to key newly established or newly recognized national laboratories with one-off rewards of 500,000 yuan and 1 million yuan, respectively. High-tech companies, meanwhile, will also receive subsidies.
The rewards aim to inject much-needed vitality into the less-developed city to help it cope with long-standing problems such as a lack of experts, said Ma Guozhen, director of the city's tech sector.
Xining will also strive to encourage research and development in the future, especially in the photovoltaic, lithium electric, aluminum-magnesium alloy and biomedical fields.
