Chinese-built largest hydropower plant inaugurated in far NE Cambodia -- The Chinese-built Lower Sesan II hydroelectric power station was inaugurated here in far northeastern Cambodia on Dec. 17 after almost five years of construction. The 400-megawatt dam is the largest and the seventh one built by China in the Southeast Asian country. Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said the 781-million-U.S. dollar project is a joint venture among China's Huaneng Hydrolancang International Energy holding 51 percent of the stake, Cambodia's Royal Group owning 39 percent and Vietnamese EVN International Joint Stock Company possessing 10 percent. The Chinese-built seven dams are capable of producing a total of 1,328 MWs, or 50.1 percent of the electricity production available in the kingdom.
China's NDRC approves nine rail transit projects in Shanghai -- China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) on Wednesday approved nine rail transit projects in Shanghai, with the total investment estimated at about 298.348 billion yuan. The planning period for the nine rail transit projects is from 2018 to 2023. The total length of the above projects is 286.1 kilometers. After the completion of these projects, Shanghai will see 27 rail transit lines with a length of 1,154 kilometers (including 342-km municipal railways).
Chinese steelmaker to build 4.4 bln USD integrated steel plant in southern Philippines -- Chinese firms Hebei Iron & Steel Group (HBIS Group) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Friday with Philippine Steel Asia Manufacturing Corporation to develop an integrated iron and steel plant costing 4.4 billion U.S. dollars in the southern Philippines. The integrated iron and steel plant will occupy a 305-hectare land inside an industrial zone for the heavy industries in Cagayan De Oro, a city in the southern Philippines. The construction period of the plant is scheduled to span from three to five years. After construction, the integrated iron and steel plant will cover a production of eight million tons of basic irons and steel products every year.
China-France JV's nuclear power unit ready for commercial use -- A third-generation nuclear power unit of a China-France joint venture in south China's Guangdong Province has completed all the testing operations and is ready for commercial use, according to a statement from China Guangdong Nuclear Power Company (CGNPC) on Dec. 13. The largest Sino-French project in the energy field, the Taishan nuclear power plant uses the European Pressurized Reactor (EPR) for its No.1 and No. 2 power units. As the world's first third-generation EPR nuclear power unit, the No. 1 unit can be put into commercial operation after the plant gets the necessary electric power business licenses. The power plant is run by a joint venture set up by CGNPC, French energy supplier Electricite de France (EDF), and Guangdong Yudean Group.
Boeing Zhoushan project in China delivers first airplane -- Boeing Zhoushan 737 Completion and Delivery Center in east China's Zhejiang Province delivered its first plane of the 737 family to Air China on Saturday. The delivery marked the U.S. aerospace giant and its Chinese partner Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd (COMAC) put into operation of their joint plant, the first such Boeing facility outside the United States. The 737 MAX 8 airplane was assembled at Boeing's Renton plant in the United States. It flied to China's coastal city of Zhoushan and received the completion works.
Inner Mongolia's PV power station to help reduce carbon emissions -- The first project of the large-scale photovoltaic power station in the Kubuqi Desert in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region has recently joined the national power grid, which is expected to reduce 800,000 tonnes of carbon emissions every year. The Dalad PV Power Base was approved by the National Energy Administration in November 2017. Construction of the base has been divided into three projects. Located in Dalad Banner, the annual power generation of the base is estimated to reach 4 billion KWH after completion, and the output value is expected to exceed 1.5 billion yuan (217 million U.S. dollars).
ADB approves 200 mln USD loan to fund green development project in southwest China -- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a 200 million U.S. dollars loan for an inclusive green development project in Ziyang city in the southwestern Chinese province of Sichuan. The new project will demonstrate for the first time how medium-sized cities in the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River can tackle ecological and green growth challenges, the Manila-based ADB said in a statement on Thursday. The ADB said the project's ecological features will include building flood control embankments, interventions to capture stormwater and, for the first time for ADB, turning a polluted landfill into a park.
