China to promote integration of ports and waterways in Yangtze River Delta -- China will strive to promote integration of the ports and waterways in the Yangtze River Delta to enhance the regional transport coordination, according to an action plan released jointly by the Ministry of Transport and the local authorities in the region. The local authorities in the region will coordinate efforts to promote construction of high-grade waterway network in the Yangtze River Delta, further optimize distribution and functions of the ports, strengthen the integration of port resources, and improve the efficiency of using the port resources. Meanwhile, they will also promote standardization of the ships on the rivers, reinforce ship pollution control in the ports, and actively advance the use of new energy and clean energy for the ships.
China to issue master plan for Baiyangdian Lake environmental governance soon -- A master plan for environmental governance of Baiyangdian Lake of Xiongan New Area is expected to come out soon, the China Securities Journal reported on December 17. According to a master plan for Xiongan New Area approved by the Chinese authorities in April this year, 70 percent of Xiongan New Area will be covered with water or trees.Experts point out high standards will be adopted in the master plan for environmental governance of Baiyangdian Lake, with the aim to achieve the goal of Class III surface water for the Lake in the future.
Shanghai releases smart city implementation plan to boost AI dev. -- Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization rolled out a smart city implementation plan to boost artificial intelligence (AI) development in Shanghai and make the city a national front-runner in AI industry. The plan said six AI innovation and application demonstration centers will be built in Shanghai and 60 AI application scenarios will be formed by 2020, reported Xinhua-run Shanghai Securities News. Shanghai will focus on applying AI technology in key areas such as manufacturing, medical care, transportation, education, finance, government affairs and security, according to the plan.
China's new policy on cross-border e-commerce to take effect on Jan. 1, 2019 -- China is expected to adjust cross-border e-commerce (CBEC) retail import policy starting from January 1, 2019, aiming to further encourage CBEC development while regulating CBEC operating entities, 21st Century Business Herald reported. From January 1, 2019, retail goods imported through CBEC platforms will continue to be regulated as imports for personal use, according to a circular recently released by authoritative departments including the Ministry of Commerce and the General Administration of Customs. The new policy will be implemented in additional 22 comprehensive CBEC pilot cities such as Beijing, Shenyang, Nanjing, Wuhan, Xi’an, Xiamen, on the basis of exsiting 15 cities.
China intensifies efforts to promote regional infrastructure connectivity -- The Chinese authorities are formulating regional development plans to promote integrated development and infrastructure connectivity within key economic development zones. China's top economic planner, National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the Ministry of Transport are leading the compilation of an outline for integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta, planning for transport integration in the Yangtze River Delta, and a special planning for infrastructure interconnection in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
