BEIJING, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) will work to push forward projects on key new material research and development (R&D) to accelerate new material application, according to an official with MIIT.
China’s new material industry has lagged behind equipment manufacturing development due to insufficient research, corporate funding as well as weak production-application and factor linkage, according to Pan Aihua, deputy director with the raw material department under the MIIT, reported Shanghai Securities News.
This has significantly restrained the transformation and upgrades of the manufacturing sector, according to the unnamed MIIT official.
China's new chemical materials, for instance, can not meet domestic needs either in terms of supply quantity or product mix, thus it depends highly on imports, according to Zhao Jungui, vice chairman with the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation (CPCIF), noting that CPCIF is currently working on a series of new material researches to provide support for new material industry development.
