BEIJING, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- China will further improve basic network of small- and medium-sized cities in central and western China and northeast China in 2019, in an effort to offer support for improving broadband access rate and popularization in rural areas, Shanghai Securities Journal reported on Wednesday.
China’s top economic planner, National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) have jointly released an announcement to carry out the work in above areas.
Provinces in the above areas are required to carry out the construction and expansion of the metropolitan transmission network and the IP metropolitan network equipment in relevant counties and townships.
Construction and expansion of the optical cable, communication pole/pipeline, and optical transmission equipment linking the counties and the townships and the small cities will be launched, paving way for improving broadband access rate and popularization in rural areas.
According to the announcement, the total investment of a single project will be no less than 100 million yuan. More than 90 percent of broadband users in the project implementation area will have access capacity of 100Mbps. (Edited by Ma Xin, maxin11@xinhua.org)
