BEIJING, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) announced that it signed a contract with Argentina’s transport Ministry on the first phase rebuilding of the San Martin freight railway on November 29 .
After the signing, CRCC became the general contractor for the design, construction and procurement of the project. It is the longest railway reconstruction project in Latin America to be built by Chinese enterprise as general contractor.
The first phase of the San Martin freight railway reconstruction project in Argentina is 1,020 kilometers long, of which, 551.5 kilometers of railway need be renovated and built, and 468.5 kilometers be repaired.
The San Martin freight railway reconstruction project will increase the freight transport volume, improve the capacity of multimodal transport between the San Martin freight railway and various modes of transportation such as ports and highways, reduce infrastructure maintenance costs, and enhance the competitiveness of railway transportation.
