Index report released to present poverty relief achievements in SW Chinese city

Abstract : China Economic Information Service (CEIS) of Xinhua News Agency and the Tongren municipal government of southwest China's Guizhou province on Wednesday jointly released the 2018 China-Tongren precise poverty alleviation index report in Beijing.
China-Tongren Precise Poverty Alleviation Index in 2012-2017
BEIJING, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- China Economic Information Service (CEIS) of Xinhua News Agency and the Tongren Municipal Government of southwest China's Guizhou Province on Wednesday jointly released the 2018 China-Tongren precise poverty alleviation index report in Beijing.
The report, mainly in the form of quantitative index, gives an objective presentation of poverty relief achievements in Tongren, providing valuable reference for poverty alleviation work evaluation.
The China-Tongren precise poverty alleviation index was 80.3 points in 2017, up 13.45 percent on year, according to the report, which shows a rapid rising trend since 2012 with the average annual growth standing at 31.09 percent.
From 2012 to 2017, Tongren City lifted 1.1661 million people out of poverty, with poverty incidence dropping from 30.45 percent in 2012 to 8.41 percent in 2017. In 2018, four counties (districts) in Tongren, namely Bijiang, Wanshan, Jiangkou and Yuping, were lifted out of poverty, according to the report.

Xinhua has attached great importance to facilitating Tongren in poverty alleviation and CEIS has innovated during the process by formulating precise poverty alleviation index and Fanjing Mountain ecological health index, according to Su Huizhi, Vice President of CEIS, noting such public service witnessed Tongren’s confidence, dedication and achievements in fighting against poverty.
CEIS and the Tongren government have so far released reports for three years consecutively, making contribution in innovation as well as providing reference barometer for poverty relief work, said Tongren party secretary Chen Changxu.
CEIS made effective data analysis in fields of poverty reduction thus to provide decision making assistance for Tongren, according to Lu Chunsheng, director with the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development. (Edited by Niu Huizhe, [email protected])
