Chinese investment boosts Croatian wind farm project -- A Chinese-invested wind farm project near Croatia's Adriatic coastal city Senj officially kicked off on Nov. 20. The 156MW Senj wind farm project is operated by Energija Projekt d.d., a company specially set up to run the project in 2011. China's Norinco International Co. Ltd. signed an equity purchase agreement with Energija Projekt on Nov. 27, 2017. According to the agreement, Norinco acquired 76 percent of the Croatian company's equity with around 32 million euros (about 36 million U.S. dollars), while the total investment in the project could reach 179 million euros. The delivery of the company was completed at the end of September. In two years, 39 wind turbines will be built on the windy mountainous area eight kilometers northeast of Senj. The nearly 45-square-kilometer wind farm will be producing 530 million kilowatts of electricity annually.
Key tunnel of Beijing-Zhangjiakou railway network finished -- The drilling of Qinghuayuan tunnel was completed on Nov. 20 in Beijing, an important progress for the Beijing-Zhangjiakou intercity high-speed railway construction to move ahead smoothly. The tunnel, which began to be built in Nov, is located in Haidian district, extending underground from the Beijing North Railway Station for 6,020 meters before going aboveground to the north. Its diameter reaches 12.64 meters.
On Nov 11, the drilling of nearly 13-kilometer-long tunnel on high-speed railway network for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Zhangjiakou, North China's Hebei province, was completed. The construction of the tunnel, the longest on Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed railway route, began in September 2016 and was named Zhengpantai tunnel. The Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed railway has a total length of 174 kilometers with 10 stops. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2019 and will shorten the trip between the two cities from the current three hours to just one hour.
Top economic planner approves 6 bln-USD airport expansion project in Xinjiang -- China's top economic planner on Nov. 19 said that it had approved an airport expansion project in Urumqi, capital of the northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. With a total investment of 42.1 billion yuan (about 6.1 billion U.S. dollars), the project will expand the Urumqi Diwopu International Airport to meet the demand of the region's rapidly growing aviation market, according to the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). A new terminal covering 500,000 square meters, and two new runways will be built. After the expansion, the airport will be able to handle 63 million passengers and 750,000 tonnes of cargo and mail by 2030.
High-speed rail line begins trial operation in northeastern China -- A new high-speed railway line started trial operation on Nov. 18 in northeastern China, linking the cities of Harbin and Mudanjiang in Heilongjiang Province. The 293-km line, built in a region where the temperature can be as low as minus 40 degrees Celsius in winter, is designed to allow trains to run at 250 km per hour, cutting the travel time to two hours from over four hours, according to the China Railway Harbin Group. The railway line is expected to start operation by the end of the year. Construction of the railway line started in December 2014 as one of the key projects in China's high-speed rail network scheme.
Algeria, China to construct 6-bln-USD phosphate project -- Algeria and China are due to launch a construction mega project on Nov. 18 for the exploitation of phosphate, an industrial expert said. Algerian Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia will launch the mega project, which is established in the easternmost region Algeria, on the border with Tunisia. The project will be realized in partnership between two Algerian groups and two Chinese groups, the expert said. China's share in the mega project is estimated at 49 percent, while the Algerian party will hold the majority share of 51 percent, in accordance with the investment law of the North African country. The project whose production should reach six million tons per year will include the duplication of the railway connecting the production site to the port of Annaba, and would generate 2,500 permanent jobs.
Chinese company to build life center in Vientiane, Laos -- China National Complete Plant Import & Export Corp., Ltd. (COMPLANT) recently announced that it had signed a contract with Lao firm Krittaphong Group Co., Ltd. to build a life center in Vientiane, capital of Laos. The life center to be built will include a shopping mall, apartments and a multi-storey garage, covering a total construction area of 66,000 square meters. The project contract comprises designing and construction (including civil construction, installation, fine decoration, weak current engineering, gardening, etc.) of the life center. The project value is tentatively estimated at 335,259,700 yuan (about 48.28 million U.S. dollars). After the construction drawing design is completed, the amount will be determined by a supplementary agreement. The contract period is 2 years from the starting date of construction.
China's CSCEC wins bidding for infrastructure project in U.S. -- China Construction America, a subsidiary of China State Construction Engineering Cooperation (CSCEC), won the bidding for the SkyRise Miami project in the U.S. The SkyRise Miami is designed to be a 1,000-foot-tall (about 304 meters) entertainment and observation tower in downtown Miami. Upon completion, it will be the tallest building in Florida and the iconic vertical entertainment scene in the U.S. Total investment of the complex is 540 million U.S. dollars. The project includes the world's only indoor-controlled free-fall system, a high-altitude glass corridor, 4D theater and five aerial viewing platforms in the building, which will bring a brand new experience to visitors overlooking the scenery of Biscayne Bay.
China's Henan province to launch 10 water conservancy projects -- Central China's Henan province will start construction of ten major water conservancy projects in the next two years, and the projects with a total investment of over 34.3 billion yuan will be completed by 2023. Under these projects, more than 1,434.3 km channels or pipe lines will be built and 889.9 kilometers of embankments and riverways will be controlled and improved. After completion, Henan will see its annual water supply capacity increase 1.78 billion cubic meters, with an additional irrigated area of 3.387 million mu (15 mu equal one hectare). In addition, these projects will help improve local flood discharge capacity and effectively realize the flood control.
