Chinese construction company Beijing Construction Engineering Group International, known as BCEGI, has been chosen to lead construction of a new 82-million-pound ($104m) landmark residential development in the Northern English city of Liverpool.

The 34-storey waterfront building, also known as the Lexington, will include 325 buy to let apartments and is owned by London-based property development company Moda Living. It will also feature a sky lounge, gym and workout area, and large amenity space.

The Lexington will be BCEGI's first project in Liverpool, but they have been involved in other major developments in the North West of England.

BCEGI was the main contractor on the 1-billion-pound Middlewood Locks development in Salford, and has been chosen to regenerate the town center in Bolton.

Moda Managing Director Tony Brooks said the company's reputation for reliability was what had made Moda pick BCEGI as its partner on the job.

BCEGI UK Lead Director Yu Dongwen said the company hoped the project could transform the Liverpool waterfront area.
