More funding is being made available for company-related research and development projects in the eastern German state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
On Monday, the state's economics minister, Harry Glawe of the centre-right Christian Democrats (CDU), announced in Schwerin that the EU Regional Development Fund (ERDF) will provide an additional 50 million euros for this purpose until 2020. Brussels has already given the green light, he said.
According to the ministry, the reallocation of funds was made possible among other things by noticeable restrictions to investment support for large companies in the state.
To date, 168 million euros have been earmarked to support research and development in the current EU funding period from 2014 to 2020. The majority of these funds had already been committed.
According to Glawe, 310 research and development projects with a funding volume of approximately 117 million euros have been supported so far.
