Construction on expressway starts to shorten distance between Xiongan and Tianjin --Construction on Oct. 22 the eastern section of the Tianjin-Shijiazhuang expressway in Tianjin has recently started, which will cut the travel time by car between Tianjin Binhai New Area and Xiongan New Area to about 1.5 hours. An estimate investment of 7.7 billion yuan is required for the construction of this section of expressway, which is 36.5 kilometers long with two-way four lanes. The new section could facilitate the transportation connections between Tianjin Binhai New Area and Xiongan New Area, and enhance Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei coordinated development, according to an official from expressway construction company.
China, Myanmar sign MoU on feasibility study of Muse-Mandalay railway -- China and Myanmar signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Oct. 22 to conduct feasibility study of a railway linking Muse, a border town in Myanmar's northeastern Shan state, with Mandalay, the country's second largest city in the north. Under the MoU, inked between China Railway Eryuan Engineering Group Co. Ltd and state-run Myanma Railways, the feasibility study will be conducted within two years covering environmental and social impact assessment. The project is expected to reduce transportation cost, contribute to socio-economic development while conforming to environmental conservation, Myanmar Transport and Communication Minister U Thant Zin Maung said during the signing ceremony.
Chinese investors establish ceramic tile manufacturing company in Zimbabwe -- Chinese investors have established a ceramic tile and porcelain manufacturing company in Zimbabwe. The ground-breaking ceremony for the 120 million U.S. dollar facility was held on Oct. 23 about 40 km south of Harare, the Zimbabwean capital. The company, Sunny Yi Feng Tiles (Zimbabwe) Pvt Limited, was registered in Zimbabwe in May and all the investors are from China. Company president Tang Yi said 30 percent of the firm's products will be sold inside Zimbabwe and the rest exported to neighboring countries.
China's Sinohydro builds second-largest dam in Honduras -- Chinese dam-building giant Sinohydro has recently completed the construction of Honduras' second-largest dam, the Patuca III. The monumental project, expected to supply 6 percent of the country's total energy needs, is ready for a test run. Sinohydro's engineers worked alongside some 1,000 Honduran experts and construction workers on the landmark project. The 55-meter-high, 200-meter-long dam features five radial gates and two intake tunnels measuring seven meters in diameter that funnel the water to propeller-style vertical Kaplan turbines that generate up to 102 megawatts of electricity each. The radial gates, each of which is 21 meters high and 14 meters wide, are raised by a giant crane that is the only one of its kind in Honduras.
China starts building 2nd littoral mission ship for Malaysia -- China on Oct. 23 started building the second littoral mission ship (LMS) for Malaysia in Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province. The new LMS is contracted by Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group under China Shipbuilding Industry Co. and is being built at its Shuangliu base in Wuhan. The first ship China made for Malaysia entered the building phase on July 31 this year. According to the contract, China will design and build four LMS for the Royal Malaysian Navy. These ships will be used for patrol, anti-terrorism, rescue, and protection of fishery activities. The contract is the first large military equipment order between China and Malaysia.
China's Huawei plans to set up manufacturing unit in India -- Chinese telecom giant Huawei plans to begin manufacturing mobile phones in India by next year, Indian media quoted the company's Global Vice-President Jim Xu as saying on Oct. 18. Xu also reportedly said that his company is also working on plans to open 1,000 company-branded stores across India in the next 2-3 years, in a bid to have a share in India's lucrative market. Revealing his plans of launching an aggressive marketing and retail campaign in India, he added, "We intend to spend around 100 million U.S. dollars as part of our outreach investment. Apart from this, we intend to have company-operated as well as partner-owned exclusive stores with plans to open 1,000 such outlets in the next 2-3 years."
Ethiopia signs 305 mln USD road projects with three Chinese firms -- The Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) on Oct. 24 signed five road projects worth 305 million U.S. dollars in total with three Chinese firms. The roads, 342.2 km in total length, are expected to be constructed in the central, northern and eastern parts of the country. China Railway 21 Bureau Group Company Limited, the China State Construction Engineering Construction Limited (CSCECL) and China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) will build the five road projects. Deputy General Manager of CCCC east Africa branch Wei Qiangyu said his company will build two of the five road projects with sstrict quality control and complete on time.
Ukraine, Poland work on joint projects in energy sector -- Ukraine and Poland are preparing to implement several joint projects in the energy sector, local media reported on Oct. 23, citing Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin. According to UNN news agency, Klimkin, who is on a visit to Warsaw, said that Ukraine and Poland are working on a project to build a gas interconnector that would link their gas transportation networks. Besides, the two countries are planning to launch a project on liquid gas deliveries, the minister said.
