Germany's SMEs are gaining in importance as employers. At the end of 2017, a record 31.3 million people were employed in small and medium-sized enterprises in Germany, according to the KfW development bank. That was 418,000 or 1.3 percent more than a year earlier. At an average of 4.7 percent, corporate revenues saw stronger growth than at any time in the previous six years. And the outlook is good: "The very good situation in the SME sector will continue in 2018," according to the bank’s latest SME study, which was presented in Frankfurt on Tuesday.
