Bangladeshi PM inaugurates construction of China-financed rail project -- Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the China-financed Padma bridge rail link project by unveiling its foundation plaque at a ceremony in Munshiganj on the outskirts of capital Dhaka on Oct. 14.The construction of the multipurpose road-rail bridge, undertaken by several Chinese companies, is the largest and most challenging infrastructure project in the country's history. The rail will be built on the lower deck of Bangladesh's largest bridge of Padma which is being built by China Major Bridge Engineering Company Limited. Bangladesh in May signed a nearly 3-billion-U.S. dollar loan deal with China's Exim Bank to construct the Padma Bridge rail link.

China part of cross-river railway bridge to Russia completed -- The main body of the Chinese part of the first cross-river railway bridge connecting with Russia was completed on Oct. 13, the construction contractor said.The bridge across the Heilongjiang River, known as the Amur River in Russia, connects the city of Tongjiang in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province with Nizhneleninskoye in Russia.The main bridge spans 2,215 meters, with 1,886 meters of that standing in China. Beginning construction in February 2014, the bridge has a designed annual throughput capacity of 21 million tonnes.

China begins constructing offshore wind farm with biggest installed capacity -- China has begun constructing an offshore wind-power project with the biggest installed capacity in the country. The wind farm's first turbine was installed on Oct. 15 in waters off Nanpeng Isle of the city of Yangjiang, south China's Guangdong Province. The project, with a planned installed capacity of 400,000 kilowatts, is expected to generate about 1.46 billion kwh of electricity annually when it goes on stream in 2020, according to its developer, China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN).

Ethiopian PM inaugurates Chinese-built industrial park -- Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed recently inaugurated Adama industrial park, located 74 km southeast of Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa. The industrial park, built by China Civil Engineering Construction Company, is part of the Ethiopian government's grand plan to transform the country's largely agrarian economy into an industrialized one by 2025. Covering 100 ha of land and built at a cost of around 146 million U.S. dollars, Adama industrial park is expected to create job opportunities for around 25,000 Ethiopians. The industrial park, designed and built with international standards, has integrated facilities including clinics, fire services, a market center, a bank, cafes, and exhibition facilities.

China approves building of Shanghai-Huzhou railway -- China's top economic planner, National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), has given consent to building of a new railway project from Shanghai via Suzhou to Huzhou on Oct. 17. The new railway line will start from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station, with a stopover in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, and end at Huzhou Railway Station in Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province. The overall length of the main project is 163.54 kilometers, with six stations including four new ones. The project requires a total investment of 36.795 billion yuan. The new railway project will help improve the transportation network layout of the Yangtze River Delta Area and promote the development of regional economic and social integration.

Water treatment plant of Cabinda water supply project in Angola complete -- With the successful capping of sludge dewatering room and equalization tank in sludge system, the construction of new water treatment plant in Sassazawu, a water supply project of Cabinda, built by China Railway Construction 20th Bureau Group Angola Project Department, was completed. The Cabinda water supply project is mainly composed of intake water pumping stations, new water treatment plants, 7000 square reservoirs, 40 kilometers of main pipes and other projects. The water treatment plant is the core part of the whole water supply system and consists of 11 single structures and sludge treatment systems. Its function is to precipitate, filter and sterilize raw water through multiple processes to make it meet the standard of drinking water. (Source: China Railway Construction Corporation Limited)

PowerChina International signs water supply system project in Arusha Tanzania -- PowerChina International Group Ltd. recently signed the contract for the construction of the new water supply system project in Arusha, Tanzania.The new Arusha water supply system project is located in Arusha, the third largest city in Tanzania. The project is owned by Arusha Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (AUWSA) and funded by the African Development Bank and the Africa Growing Together Fund (AGTF).The project mainly consists of a major water pipeline of about 176 km, a water supply network of about 400 km, 10 reservoirs with the larges one of 10,000 cubic meters, 5 transfer lift pump stations, 43 deep well pumps and 29 water hammer tanks, etc.

China-Thailand project seeks to boost cooperation on water power management -- China and Thailand on Oct.11 signed a memorandum of understanding on a project to strengthen cooperation on hydropower projects and mitigation of associated climate change impacts. The project seeks to establish an information-sharing platform that will bring together relevant stakeholders and experts from China and Mekong countries to enhance their mechanisms for communication and knowledge exchange, particularly on the analysis and design of technical solutions to better manage water storage structures. The project aims to translate information to beneficial strategies, especially for communities in hydropower project sites. For the first phase, the project will focus on hydrological stations.
