BEIJING, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- The Yinchuan-Tehran international freight trains shuttling from the capital city of northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, and the capital of Iran have made 113 trips since its opening in September 2017, transporting over 200,000 tonnes of goods valuing 150 million U.S. dollars.

The trip covers 8,243 kilometers and takes around 15 days, saving over 20 days as compared with traditional ocean shipping and thus significantly reducing logistics costs.

The freight trains have already become an important link for economic and trade cooperation between enterprises in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and countries along the Belt and Road, connecting north and northwest China with countries of Central and West Asia, said Kong Guohua, deputy director of Department of Commerce of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.

In the next stage, more measures will be taken to improve the quality and efficiency of Ningxia international freight trains, including extending the Yinchuan-Tehran line to the international line of the economic corridor around the Caspian sea, opening Yinchuan-Mongolia and Yinchuan-Russia lines and deepening the cooperation with coastal ports.
